The best ski resort in the Alps, Ischgl, gives you everything you wish: the best ski slopes, the most spectacular views, top of the mountain concerts and ice sculptures.

This Austrian resort, located in a traditional village with 1,500 inhabitants, offers a perfect combination of winter sports and quality entertainment; this is the reason for being awarded many times and appreciated by celebrities such as Rihanna, Alicia Keys or Nicole Scherzinger.

From the end of November until early May, Ischgl offers ideal conditions for winter sports, that will surpass all your expectations. The 238 km of Silveretta Arena comprises slopes for all categories of skiers that are improved each year, so skiing is an unforgettable experience.
There are more than 41 cable cars and chairlifts that take you to the slopes, including Fimbabahn, the first cable car in Austria…with heated seats; also, over 490 snow guns ensure that coverage and snow quality is consistent.
Do not miss the 11 km race, which starts on Greitspitz at a height of 2,900 m. And for adrenaline addicts, there are 12 miles off-shore routes and other undiscovered portions of snow.

Hotels, restaurants and nightlife:
The famous restaurants, rustic gourmet-booths and sun terrace from the slopes, offers a lively atmosphere.
“Relax. If you can…” is the slogan of this stunning resort, but is no way you can do that with such a nightlife (the area is also known as the party metropolis of the Alps) and the truth is you don’t really have time to sleep at night. But if you really want to sleep you can choose from a variety of hotels, villas, hostels – all prices, all possible facilities, all types of architecture… for all tastes.

One of the most beautiful natural monuments on the old continent can be admired in Austria. A large part of the alpine region in the south of Salzburg state belongs to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Krimmler falls are also part of this nature reserve. In Salzburger Land, more precisely in Achental Krimmler peak’s area, from Hohe Tauern National Park, are Europe’s highest waterfalls.

At a height of 380 m, the Krimml Waterfalls are the fifth highest waterfalls in the entire world. Their masses of glacial water provide a spectacular scene, as they fall over 3 terraces on their journey down the mountain. The first stage – the Upper Falls – drops some 140 meters. Then follows a short flat segment, known as the “Schönangerl”, from which the second “Middle Achenfall” stage plunges down another 100 meters. The third tier, the “Lower Achenfall”, is more than 140 meters in height.

The entire area is managed by the Austrian Alpine Association, which has arranged several viewpoints along the Krimml waterfall path: Riemann Kanzel (1.110 m), Regen Kanzel (1.150 m), Sendtner Kanzel (1.170 m), Jung Kanzel (1.210 m), Jaga Sprung (1.220 m), Bergersteig (1.245 m), Schönangerl (1.306 m), Staubige Reib (1.330 m), Bergerblick (1.390 m), Schettkanzel (1.460 m). The paved path was also built by the Austrian Alpine Association from the Water Wonder World to the lowest waterfall. Moreover, the waterfall path takes you to the highest waterfall and offers sensational views of this breathtaking nature spectacle.

Tourist route is open from mid April to late October.
With approx. 350,000 visitors each year they are one of the most visited tourist attractions in Austria. Well, not only this unique natural spectacle brings the tourists here, but also their therapeutic properties, the waterfalls having a positive effect on people wellbeing and health.

The scientific studies carried out at the Krimml Waterfalls confirmed that they have therapeutic properties, the high concentration of negative air ions in the ambient air of the waterfall stimulate the immune system, leading to a persistent improvement of the respiratory tract and positively affecting the function of the lungs. Even the frequency of allergic and asthmatic attacks can be reduced.
The area was declared a health spa since the eighteenth century, and in 1967 this beautiful natural monument was awarded with the “European
Diploma of Protected Areas”, so anyone should visit it at the first opportunity!

The place is impressive not only for its natural beauty, but for the way it’s maintained as well. In the falls area have sprung many constructions, restaurants, hostels, shops, tourist information centers, even an Aqua Park and a House of Water – a space for film screenings.

Also, note that in this region are some of Austria’s most attractive ski resorts (Zillertal Arena, Zell am Ziller, Kitzbühel, Kaprun) and other natural attractions like Kaprun-Kitzsteinhorn Glacier and Grossglockner Glacier.

The world famous home of skiing, Austria, is an ideal resort for anyone who enjoys skiing. The fresh alpine slopes, combined with picture-postcard scenery, and a grand culture of centuries old make Austria an ideal holiday destination, whether or not you simply adore skiing like me!

Austria is home to a wide variety of ski resorts, catering for all abilities and tastes. From the lavishly expensive to the bargain basement (yet still of a consistently high quality), Austria has it all, from the highest peaks, to the snowiest landscapes, and with a bit of research you can find some really great deals.

When in Austria, you’d be mad not to ski the Alps. The dream of many skiers, the Alps span several European countries, and is a must-ski for an enthusiast. Spend a good few days in Austria, and dedicate at least one of them to skiing the alps. You won’t regret it, I can promise you that!

If you put in the research work before you leave, you will generally be able to find some top quality accommodation at low prices. Whether you are booking within a ski resort, or nearby, you should consult the internet to find last minute deals which might help you save money. A good tip to bear in mind is that the star rating given to accommodation does not indicate quality. You might be better off in a one star than a three star for example, given that the star only represents the level of facilities. Additionally, lower star ratings are usually cheaper, so you can benefit from quality, reduced price accommodation if you know where to look. Whatever type of accommodation you opt for, if you are flexible enough to leave for your vacation instantly you will benefit from good deals. Hotels often cut their prices at the last minute, on the basis that some money for a room is better than no money, and so if you’re prepared to get away as soon as possible, you will find it can be really cheap, and you can still have a great time all the same.

On top of that, the internet is home to a variety of low cost airlines which run ‘no frills’, no ticket services. In my personal experience, I have found these airlines to be as good as their more expensive competitors, and just as efficient and comfortable. One word of caution about any airline: make sure they are equipped to handle skiing equipment. Some companies will charge a surplus for your skis, so it is important to ask before you book as to arrangements for bulky or large and fragile goods.

Another highly recommended purchase is insurance for both your equipment and yourself. Things do go wrong, on holiday as well as at home. It is important, therefore to make sure you are covered. Particularly when you are placing your equipment in an airplane hold, or when you are indulging in a dangerous sport like skiing, insurance is important for ensuring you don’t end up high and dry. You can find good deals if you shop around, and it really is worth the few bucks to get that piece of mind, and actual backup in case things go wrong. In a word, it is essential. Don’t leave home without it!
